Job Summary – Duties and Responsibilities
As a full-time Class 310T Mechanic, you will report directly to the Shop Manager. Your schedule will generally be Monday through Friday, with some potential for overtime based on seasonal needs. You’ll be working with a newer fleet and a comprehensive maintenance program that ensures quality and reliability.
Your main duties include:
- Performing scheduled and emergency maintenance on fleet vehicles (primarily school buses) according to the maintenance schedule
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic equipment, and providing recommendations on repairs
- Conducting brake, safety, and emissions inspections according to Ministry and company standards
- Assisting with emergency road breakdowns and offering troubleshooting advice to vehicle operators
- Collaborating with drivers and supervisors to diagnose and resolve issues
- Inspecting and repairing wheelchair ramps, hoisting devices, and other equipment
- Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance performed, parts used, and supplies
- Ensuring vehicles have access to necessary supplies such as fuel, oil, and fluids
- Assisting with ensuring fleet vehicles are in good working condition during inclement weather
- Performing maintenance and repairs on the building as needed
- Keeping the workplace clean and safe
Qualifications
- Valid 310T Truck and Transport Mechanic license with experience in both gasoline and diesel engines
- A valid Class “G” driver’s license in Ontario
- Strong ability to complete work orders accurately and communicate effectively with management, dispatch, and drivers
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with OEM diagnostic software and tools
- Knowledge of geographic locations and route planning
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow up on tasks efficiently
