Plumber
Position Overview:
The Plumber will be responsible for the operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of domestic hot and cold water systems, sanitary drainage systems, pumps, and fixtures within a Correctional Environment. This role involves assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems, ensuring compliance with plumbing codes and specifications. The Plumber will also review building plans and working drawings to determine the required work aids and the sequence of installations, while marking and positioning piping and pipe valve isolation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and various methods related to the installation of copper, carbon steel, and cast iron piping.
- Experience in soldering, brazing, pro press, pipe threading, pipe grooving, and other piping methods common in a Commercial/Industrial setting.
- Test pipe systems by filling with water or air and reading gauges to monitor system pressure.
- Expertise in commercial drain cleaning and service.
- Supervise and direct Trade Helpers assigned to assist with plumbing duties.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Basic literacy with the physical strength and dexterity to perform heavy lifting and plumbing tasks.
- High School Diploma, GED, or completion of Trade School.
- Minimum of three (3) years of plumbing experience in the trade.
- Licensed Journeyman in the City of Philadelphia.
- Must provide own basic hand tools and test equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and layouts.
- Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Capable of climbing ladders and walking long distances.
- Ability to pass a background investigation (without a criminal history).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and random drug tests.
- Must be able to work overtime when necessary.
- Ability to work in all climate conditions.
- The position is within a 24/7 correctional environment, and shifts will be assigned, potentially involving multiple schedules.
