Heavy Equipment Technician
Pay: $33.00 – $45.00/hr

Are you the go-to person when a machine goes down? Do you have the experience, grit, and know-how to keep diesel engines, paving machines, and heavy-duty trucks running like new? We’re looking for a seasoned Heavy Equipment Mechanic who can take charge of maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics across a wide range of vehicles and machinery — from Peterbilts to paving equipment.
What You’ll Do:
- Build, assemble, and install mechanical components per spec.
- Inspect machines and run diagnostics to uncover issues.
- Perform repairs focused on reliability, safety, and performance.
- Conduct 90-day BIT Inspections and PSIP Testing.
- Log all maintenance and repair activities accurately.
- Collaborate with Superintendents and Forepersons to coordinate repairs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
- Maintain all systems: mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and more.
- Clean, lubricate, and replenish machinery fluids.
- Provide guidance on proper usage and preventative maintenance.
- Tackle a wide range of jobs including hydraulics, powertrains, brake systems, fuel systems, and AC.
- Test drive and adjust systems to verify performance.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state safety standards.
- Manage shop tools, inventory, and part orders.
- Use warranties and evaluate service options to reduce costs.
- Take on additional tasks as needed — you’re the type who gets it done.
What You Bring:
- High school diploma preferred; vocational training or apprenticeship is a big plus.
- Valid certifications (ASE or equivalent) are preferred.
- Solid experience working with diesel trucks, paving equipment, and heavy machinery.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Skilled with hand tools and precision instruments (calipers, gauges, etc.).
- Ability to follow procedures, interpret schematics, and stay organized.
- Physically strong with great stamina — you’re not afraid of hard work.
- Safety-first mindset and clear communication skills.
- Creative problem-solver who thrives under pressure.
