Mechanic Lead / Head of Maintenance

Location: Burlington, ON

Pay Range: $35 – $40 per hour (based on experience)

About Us

We are a dynamic scrap recycling facility specializing in processing stainless steel. Our operations involve using heavy-duty stationary equipment, such as balers and crushers, to prepare materials for melting. With over 25 years in the industry, we are seeking a hands-on, experienced Mechanic Lead to oversee our maintenance team and ensure smooth plant operations.

Position Overview

As the Mechanic Lead, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing a diverse range of equipment, including mobile machinery (cranes, forklifts, bobcats, trucks) and large stationary systems (balers, crushers). In addition to performing technical work, you will lead a team of two maintenance staff, ensuring efficient operations, troubleshooting problems, and delegating tasks effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repairs:
  • Service and maintain mobile equipment, including roll-off trucks, cranes, forklifts, and bobcats.
  • Repair and maintain stationary equipment such as balers and crushers.
  • Perform welding, torch cutting, and other related tasks.
  • Leadership & Supervision:
  • Lead and manage a team of two maintenance employees.
  • Delegate tasks, ensure team productivity, and provide on-the-job training as needed.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
  • Source parts, materials, and contractors for in-house and outsourced repairs.
  • Facility Maintenance:
  • Oversee minor building repairs, including plumbing and infrastructure upkeep.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
  • Ensure safe working practices for all team members and equipment usage.

Requirements

  • Essential Skills & Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in diesel and heavy equipment mechanics.
  • Leadership experience with a hands-on, problem-solving approach.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics, electrical schematics, and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in welding and fabrication.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy objects and adapt to diverse tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $35 – $40 per hour (based on experience).
  • Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM (weekends off).
