Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic
Field Mechanic – Heavy Equipment | $50-$58/hr | 25-30% Travel
We’re seeking a skilled and dependable Field Mechanic to join our team. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining specialized heavy equipment at various job sites. Travel will be 25-30%, and flexibility with shifts is essential. We offer competitive pay ($50.00 – $58.00/hour), along with 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment systems, including hydraulics, powertrains, engines, and electrical components.
- Perform repairs, reconditioning, and maintenance of heavy equipment in the field.
- Prepare machinery for delivery and ensure optimal operational condition.
- Accurately document service reports and communicate findings to clients and management.
- Plan repair jobs with cost and time efficiency in mind.
- Maintain company tools and equipment in good working order.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Own and maintain required personal tools.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Participate in out-of-town assignments, including overnight stays.
- Communicate with internal teams and clients to clarify instructions or job progress.
- Work overtime and in adverse weather conditions as required.
- Stay up to date with company procedures and industry best practices.
Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Strong diagnostic and technical skills.
- Knowledge of major heavy equipment brands like CAT, John Deere, and Liebherr.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools and computerized instrumentation.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical information effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain a CDL if required.
- Safety-first mindset with attention to detail.
Preferred:
- 10+ years of heavy equipment repair experience.
- Proficiency in rebuilding machinery systems, including hydraulics, engines, and emissions systems.
- Experience with warranty claims and failure analysis procedures.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and high or precarious locations.
- Frequent work in wet, hot, or cold environments.
- Loud work environments typical of heavy equipment maintenance.
