Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Chatham, VA | $30–$38/hr | Full-Time | Day Shift

Looking for a solid heavy equipment mechanic who knows their way around dozers, excavators, articulated trucks, pans and other dirt-moving iron.

This is a hands-on field role with a company service truck that goes home with you. You’ll spend roughly 80% of your time in the field and 20% in the shop, keeping a large fleet of earthmoving equipment up and running. Most weeks are around 50 hours, Monday–Friday, typically 7:00 AM–5:00 PM.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair heavy earthmoving equipment
  • Work on dozers, excavators, articulated trucks, pans and other construction equipment
  • Handle field breakdowns, repairs, maintenance and service work
  • Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, engine and mechanical issues
  • Identify parts needs and help get equipment back in the dirt
  • Use diagnostic software and a company laptop to troubleshoot equipment

What You Bring

  • 3–5+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Experience working on construction/earthmoving equipment
  • Able to work independently in the field and get the job done
  • Your own basic hand tools — specialty tools and anything 3/4" and larger are provided
  • CDL is not required

What’s In It For You

  • $30–$38/hr DOE — flexible for the right mechanic
  • Company service truck you can take home
  • Company smartphone
  • Laptop and diagnostic software
  • Specialty tools provided
  • Tool replacement if company-supported tools wear out or break
  • Day shift — Monday through Friday
  • Around 50 hours/week
  • Very flexible with time off
  • Health and dental coverage
  • 401(k) with match
  • Vacation time negotiable

You’ll be joining an established maintenance team supporting 130+ pieces of earthmoving equipment and 300+ total fleet vehicles and equipment.

If you’re the mechanic who can jump in a service truck, track down the problem and get the iron back working, let’s talk.
